The Noddy books are now considered classics of children's literature. Creator of this character is Enid Blyton. She was born in 1897 and died in 1968. She was an English writer best known for her children's novels. Over 600 million copies of her books have been sold worldwide. Her first book was " The Famous Five" (1941) It proved very popular and won a Carnegie Medal in 1943. In 1948 she wrote "Noddy". In all she wrote 112 books. 70 of them were Noddy books. In 1964 she was awarded the Hans Christian Andersen award for her lifetime contribution to children's literature. She was the only woman to have been so honoured until Janet and Allan Ahlberg in 1993. Noddy's fascination is with a red jumper, which he is used to wear when he goes to Toyland without his parents, although in most stories it is implied that he wears it all the time anyway, even when not going to Toyland. His family has a great big yellow toy shed where he and his other toys live. The toys that live there belong to him and his friend Big-Ears. The people who make the Noddy films use it as a garage and sometimes as a bed and breakfast (B&B) for Noddy and Big-Ears. Noddy gets to Toyland by jumping from his bedroom window, but once he is there, nobody can see him because he is so small. So he gets Big-Ears to give him a ride on top of Kiddicraft's van when they go to Toyland with Noddy's new jumper, telling them that the jumper has been lost in the wash. After a long trip, they arrive in Toyland, and Noddy meets Mr. Plod, who loves his red jumper and wants to buy it from him. So Noddy has to work at Toyland fairs so he can earn enough money to buy the jumper back from Mr. Plod, but all the time Big-Ears tries to help him by stealing back the jumper or trying to persuade Mr. Plod that a doll's house really is a castle. 8eeb4e9f32 35
